Use of Irrigation Syringe

When instructed by Drs. Fraser and Michaels, three to five days after your oral surgery procedure, you may begin using the oral irrigation syringe given to you at your follow up visit.  Fill this syringe with either lukewarm water or salt water solution of 1/2 teaspoonful of table salt and 8 ounces of warm water.  Place the syringe in your mouth with the curved plastic tip directed into the extraction socket and push the plunger on the syringe gently.  This syringe can be used like a water pick thoroughly cleaning the socket.  One syringe of salt water (approximately 10 ml) should be used for cleaning each socket.  This syringe should be used after meals to help rinse away food that may become trapped in the extraction site.  In most cases, your syringe will be used for approximately one week as needed to keep the wound clean.  Decrease the number of times you use the syringe each day over the 7-day period "tapering off" its use.  Follow the instructions for use as given by Drs. Fraser and Michaels.  Please contact the office for questions regarding the use of the Irrigation syringe.
